About The 9000 |
When Dave Tozer met Craig Allison at Fabric it was a given they would end up having an almighty nerd off about their musical passions. Guitarist Dave had grown up in London obsessed with all things rock and metal; whilst Manchester born deejay Craig lived for house and hip hop. Both had already released dance tracks and remixes under their respective monikers; POD and Disposable DJs. Before long someone uttered that fabled sentence: “Why don't we start a band?”. The name; The 9000. The sound; a twisted fusion of electronica and rock, with a disco sparkle. After years of hard studio graft, spent honing the combined rock/dance/disco sound, gigs at events all over the UK followed; the Glade Festival, Indigo2, a residency at 93 Feet East and endless warehouse parties. “Our show is basically a live band take on club deejaying with the emphasis on remixing our own tracks in the moment,” explains Dave. “We are an act that writes and performs for the dance floor rather than dance producers who sounded a bit band-ish.” In January of 2009 they upped the ante on the live show by adding bass player, Vince Brady, and drummer, Reuben Humpries. At their first gig as a foursome they were spotted by NME DJ Ben Osborne who immediately signed their first single to his Slipped Disco imprint. Craig says their ultimate goal is simple. “We want to make great records that sit comfortably next to artists such as Justice, Radio 4, Metronomy, Does It Offend You Yeah... hopefully the kind of music that excites people”.
